What role do you play in Eurydice?

I play three characters that are all essentially the same person: the Nasty, Interesting Man, the Child and the Lord of the Underworld. The first two characters are branches off of the Lord of the Underworld.

What made you want to be a part of this production?

I had agreed to be the producer for “Eurydice,” so I was already involved in the production from the beginning. I didn’t audition for it, though, because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to both tech for and act in the same show. However, after reading the script at our first production meeting, I immediately regretted not auditioning for it, but by then they had already cast the show. But then, luckily enough, two actors had dropped out of the production, including the girl who was cast as the role that I secretly wanted to play, the Nasty, Interesting Man. I was able to audition again and received the part, and have been terrifying people with my dramatic eyebrows ever since.

How did the performances go?

The performances went wonderfully! Eurydice is the most beautiful play I’ve ever acted in so far. It’s haunting and moving, and really draws out people’s emotions; it really makes you feel something. Seeing how people responded to the show was perhaps my favorite part—in addition to riding the tricycle, of course.

Are you involved in other theater productions at Wellesley?

We just wrapped up “Eurydice” so not at the moment, but I’m generally very active in theater at Wellesley. Theater is one of my majors (in addition to history), and I’m a member of the Shakespeare Society and Dead Serious, both of which are dedicated to the highest forms of dramatic art. In total, I have been involved in seven shows at Wellesley.

Do you think that Wellesley has a good theater culture?

Wellesley does have a lot of people who are passionate about theatre, whether it be in acting or working a show. That passion is what really makes a production. However, we always welcome more potential actors and tech people into the theater community, especially since we’re losing so many crucial members of that community with this year’s graduating class. So if you’re reading this, and you’re interested in either tech-ing for or acting in theater, by all means, join!

What other activities are you involved with on campus?

The aforementioned Shakespeare Society and Dead Serious. I also (although not this semester) am a WZLY DJ and I work for the history department. Also, I consider being pretty awesome a full-time job.
