BASKETBALL
Springfield beat Wellesley 72-58 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Quarterfinals at Springfield College last Wednesday night. This loss ended the Blue's season with a 12-13 record. In the second half the score was 33-all but Springfield's 3-pointer broke the tie and initiated a small lead. The teams eventually tied again 41-all with about 11 minutes left in the game. Springfield broke the tie again with a 3-pointer and continued to pull away from the Blue. Springfield outrebounded the Blue 35-32 and each team had 18 turnovers. The Blue made an impressive seven out of 15 three-pointers in the first half but made only 3 out of 12 in the second half. The Blue's top scorer was Malia Maier '13, with 17 points, followed by Leslie Long '14, with 12 points. Becca Kimball '13 contributed 11 points and a game-high of 13 rebounds.
TRACK
The Wellesley Track team took 16th place out of 34 teams and broke three Wellesley records at the New England Intercollegiate Track & Field Championships held at Boston University last weekend. The Championships consisted of Division I, II and III teams from six different New England states. Christina Lucas '13 placed first in her heat in the mile and ran a personal best of 5:07.67. Lucas qualifies for the ECAC Division III Championship. Randelle Boots '13 placed second in her heat at 4:49.22, the best Division III time of the indoor track season. Boots ranks seventh place on the Division III all-time list. Her performance is a new Wellesley record. The 4x400 meter relay team, Lucas, Adiba Manning '13 and Leah Clement '12 totaled a time of 4:06.02, also setting a new Wellesley record. The Blue competes again next weekend with those athletes who qualify running in the ECAC Division III Championships in New York, NY.
