Field Hockey
Field Hockey enjoyed a home victory at Saturday's NEWMAC quarterfinals,
scoring four unanswered goals in the second half of the 4-1 game against Wheaton.
The Blue outshot Wheaton by a 32-13 margin. Callie Lekas '12 scored two goals,
while Molly Morrow '10 and Kate Cushing '11 each had a goal. Goalkeeper Sarina
Sawyer ‘11 had nine saves in her first post-season start.
Cross Country
Cross country took second place at the 2009 NEWMAC Championships held on
Saturday in Boston's Franklin Park. All-Conference runners Randelle Boots '13
and Claire Cummings '13 led the team, with Boots placing ninth overall with a time
of 19:36, while Cummings took 12th with a time of 20:00. Blue placed all scorers
in the top 25.
Soccer
Soccer secured a spot in the NEWMAC semifinals with a 3-1 win over Mount
Holyoke. Meredith Roy '12 and Chelsea-Ann Patry '13 each recorded a goal and
an assist in the 3-1 victory. Jennifer Marble '13 also added to the score with a goal
in the 85th minute. Wellesley outshot Mount Holyoke 25-9.
Volleyball
Volleyball enjoyed a successful Senior Day with a 3-0 victory over Smith. The
win put the Blue at 20-9 for the season and 7-2 in the NEWMAC conference, securing
a seed in the NEWMAC tournament. Elizabeth Campbell '13 garnered 14
kills on 17 attempts with no errors for an .824 attack percentage. Victoria Peng '11
and Isabel Custodio '13 tallied 34 assists together while Naomi Iwata '10 and Alice
Cummings '10 held up the defense with eight and seven digs, respectively.
Tennis
NEWMAC announced the 2009 women's tennis post-season awards winners.
Wheaton and Wellesley, the two tournament finalists, combined to account for all
nine of the First Team awards. Blue's Marie Watanabe '12 won Player of the Year
as well as First Team All-Conference at first singles. Jacqueline Shen '11, Nathalie
Herman '11 and Meghan Stubblebine '10 were also named to the First Team. The
awards came after the Blue's hard-fought second place finish in the NEWMAC
Championship.
