Volleyball
Volleyball swept MIT 3-0 Saturday to capture the NEWMAC Championship title. The Blue earned its second NEWMAC volleyball title in three years as well as its 11th title overall. The scores for the three sets were 25-14, 25-13 and 25-19. With an overall record of 23-9 for the season, the team will compete in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Cross Country
Cross country earned multiple NEWMAC post-season awards, including its first Sportsmanship Award, as well as Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach John Babington. Babington received his seventh Coach of the Year honors and helped to guide the team to its second place finish at the NEWMAC Championship this season. Runners Randelle Boots ’13 and Claire Cummings ’13 earned All-Conference Awards. Next up, the team will compete in the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 14.

Fencing
Fencing competed in the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Fall Invitational at Smith College Saturday. The meet featured over 230 fencers representing 23 colleges. Two Wellesley fencers placed in the top ten for their respective events. Hannah Braaten ’11 competed at foil and won the silver medal in a field of 76 other participants. Emily Johnson ’10 competed against 71 fencers in epee and finished ninth.
Field Hockey
Springfield defeated Wellesley 3-2 in overtime during the NEWMAC semifinals on Saturday. The Blue secured an early lead in the game when Callie Lekas ’10 scored on a penalty corner from Dana Trail ’10. Late in the second half, Springfield tied the score 1-1. Lekas responded with her second goal of the game. The Blue led 2-1 with 16 minutes remaining in the game. In the final minute, Springfield scored to tie 2-2 and sent the game into overtime. One minute into overtime, Springfield scored the game-winning goal. The Blue ended their season with a 12-8 overall record.

Soccer
Soccer finished the season with an overall record of 9-6-3, losing to Springfield 1-0 in the NEWMAC semifinals on Saturday. Both teams finished the first half of competitive play scoreless. Six minutes into the second half, Springfield’s Courtney Price ’11 scored the winning goal on a long free kick. Goalkeeper Katie Martore ’10 recorded nine saves while Springfield’s Hanna MacDougall ’12 recorded six saves.

Squash
Squash lost to Smith 7-2 in the season opener held at Dana Hall Saturday. Team captains Sarah Odell ’10 and Ashley Stevens ’10 both won their matches at first and second positions, but Smith swept the third through ninth positions. Jess Whitley ’10 won both exhibition matches for the Blue.
Swimming
Swimming opened the season with a win at the 13th annual Betty Spears Relays held at Wellesley’s Chandler Pool Saturday. The Blue won eight events to capture first place with a total of 180 points. Mount Holyoke took second place with 156 points, followed by Westfield State with 144 points. Virginia Hung ’13 and Carolyn Jackson ’13 each participated in four winning relay teams while Maia Fitzstevens ’13 and Katherine Foley ’13 recorded three and two relay wins, respectively.
